What is FMEA?  FMEA is an abbreviation for Failure Mode Effects Analysis and is defined as a systematic set of activities intended to:

Recognize and evaluate the potential failure of a product/process and its effect.

Identify actions that could eliminate or reduce the chance of the potential failure occurring,

Document the analysis results.

There are two types of FMEA's:

• Design FMEA

• Process FMEA

The FMEA is a useful tool because it identifies potential points where failure(s) could occur and focuses actions on eliminating the cause of the failure.
